Starting in Wisconsin and now in Connecticut, BRIDGES Healthy Cooking School continues to empower our communities by advocating critical thinking skills, by connecting our community to other qualified institutions that provide healthy lifestyle services, and by leveraging the local food supply to nourish our low-income seniors. BRIDGES stands alone and is the sole leader within this niche market of Community Wellness Skills Education.
Comprehensive within Community Wellness Skills Education, BRIDGES teaches:
· health and nutritional information
· health resource awareness
· environmental stewardship and an understanding of agricultural preservation
· interaction with, and knowledge of locally grown and sustainable foods
· acceptance of, and attention to community growth and economic diversity
· cultural and social bonding through health and food
BRIDGES will continue to impact our communities in several ways:
1. BRIDGES will act as a major resource for our underprivileged senior populations throughout Connecticut, and will act as an advocate for their well being.
2. BRIDGES will provide educational support to senior citizens to enable them to manage their health through proper food preparation techniques, nutrition, and access to affordable, locally produced food.
3. BRIDGES will integrate sustainable food communities, local farmers and producers, and agricultural land conservation as fundamentally essential pillars of the troika that must be employed to support our low-income senior populations.
4. BRIDGES will strengthen our local resources by purchasing from local farmers and producers, farmers' markets, and cooperatives, and/or creating community gardens.
